The scrollwork and huddled blue sparrows in the foreground are a pen-and-ink drawing and the ominous winter sunset in the background is an acrylic painting. Artist Ty Meier likes to say “I liked how it came out and tried the same technique on my next several artworks, but it never came out as well again and it makes me very concerned about how much of art IS LUCK!”

During basic training Ty would find himself muttering “This too shall pass, this too shall pass” over and over when he found himself doing a million push-ups or hanging off a cliff or some other crazy thing. However this artwork was painted in April 2020 during the onset of the pandemic. It’s an ancient sentiment traced back to antiquity and is worth an internet deep dive.

Ty sold the original artwork at an Audobon show after the pandemic and while it was much complimented it also received some hilarious criticism: Those bird experts pointed out that there is no such thing as a blue sparrow. Ty, in exasperation, said “If they were blue dragons it would have been just fine!”

This artwork is an 8”x10” mounted print. Ty brushed clear glossy acrylic medium to give it some texture over the details, and lacquered it until it glowed.
